The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named six men’s programs and six women’s programs from the Horizon League as All-Academic Teams this week. A total of 142 men’s teams and 218 women’s teams received the recognition. To qualify, programs must record a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.0.
Detroit Mercy, IUPUI, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, UIC, and Youngstown State were all honored on both the men’s side and the women’s side with All-Academic Team honors. Detroit Mercy’s men’s program led the Horizon League with a 3.23 GPA while IUPUI’s women’s program paced the league with a 3.61 GPA.
The USTFCCCA also announced its 2016-17 All-Academic Individuals on Friday. A total of ten Horizon League student-athletes received the honor. 516 male student-athletes and 752 female student-athletes were recognized in all.
In order to qualify, student-athletes must possess a 3.25 GPA and have either finished the indoor season ranked in the Top 96 in an individual event in the NCAA or in the Top 48 in a relay event or have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships in outdoor season.
