Detroit sophomore midfielder Mary Parker (Troy, MI/Athens HS) has added another award to her growing list from the 2004 season as SoccerBuzz.com announced that the magazine has selected her to their 2004 Great Lakes All-Region Team.
Making her first appearance on the squad, Parker (right) was honored as a member of the Third Team following her outstanding season on the pitch that saw her lead the Horizon League in goals (16), shots (70), points per game (1.61), goals per game (.70) and game winning goals (5). She was also in the top five in the league in assists with five.
This is not the first honor from SoccerBuzz.com that Parker has brought home, as she was named to their National Elite Team of the Week on Sept. 22 following her seven goal outburst in a pair of games, including game winners against Niagara and Centenary. Her four goals against Niagara tied the previous single game school record.
Parker single handedly rewrote the Detroit single game record book with her five-goal, two-assist performance against Cleveland State on Oct. 8 in a 13-0 Titan win. In that contest, Parker set new school records for goals and points with five and 12, respectively. The Titans set a school record with 13 total goals as a team.
Parker was selected to the NSCAA/adidas All-Region team on Dec. 16 and was named to the All-Horizon League First Team and Horizon League All-Tournament Team for the second year in a row. Parker capped her stellar season by being named the 2004 Horizon League Women's Soccer Player-of-the-Year.
