INDIANAPOLIS -- Detroit forward Shareta Brown has been named the Horizon League women’s basketball Player of the Week, while Loyola guard Taylor Johnson has been named the Newcomer of the Week.

Brown posted her sixth double-double of the season in helping lead the Titans to an 86-76 win over Wright State for their first Horizon League win of the year. The Co-Newcomer of the Year last season was 9-of-16 from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, to finish with a game-high 25 points. The two three-pointers were a career-best. Brown also pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds and passed out five assists.

Detroit (8-7, 1-2) plays its first home games of League play this week as they host Loyola (6-10, 1-2) on Thursday and UIC (6-10, 2-1) on Saturday.

Johnson averaged 20.5 points per game, 11.0 rebounds per game, 4.0 steals per game and 3.5 assists per game as the Ramblers went 1-1 last week. She racked up 19 points and 11 rebounds in the Ramblers’ 52-44 win over Valparaiso on Wednesday. On Saturday in Loyola’s loss to Wright State, Johnson had 22 points and 11 rebounds. During the weekend, Johnson broke Loyola’s freshman record for steals in a season. She now has 48 for the season, two more than Faith Mimnaugh had in the 1981-82 season.

Loyola plays two games on the road this week, facing the Titans on Thursday and Youngstown State (11-5, 1-2) on Saturday.

Top Performers for the Week:

Stephanie Sension, Green Bay (Sr., F) - Sension scored in double figures and shot over 50 percent in both GB games last week as the Phoenix won two games on the road. She had 16 points, on 8-of-14 shooting in GB’s 52-49 win at Cleveland State on Thursday and had 12 points, on 6-of-9 shooting, in the 59-41 Phoenix win over Youngstown State.

Emily Decorah, Milwaukee (Jr., G) - Decorah scored 15 points - all on three-pointers - to help lead UWM to a 63-60 win at Cleveland State on Saturday. It was the first win for the Panthers in Cleveland since 2006. For the weekend, Decorah was 9-of-18 on three-pointers as she finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds.

Monica Touvelle, Youngstown State (Jr., G) - Touvelle scored a career-high 23 points in YSU’s 67-50 win over Milwaukee on Thursday. She connected on five three-pointers against the Panthers and made two more against Green Bay as she finished the week 7-of-11 from three-point range.

Tabitha Gerardot, Valparaiso (Jr., F) - Gerardot finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds to record her fourth double-double of the season in Valpo’s loss at UIC on Saturday. In the Crusaders two games last week, she shot 11-of-17 from the field.

Shalonda Winton, Cleveland State (Sr., F) - Winton averaged 17.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in CSU’s two contests last week. She moved into second place in CSU’s record books during the week and now has 949 for her career.

Top Newcomers for the Week:

Rosanna Reynolds, Detroit (Fr., G) - Reynolds had a season-high 20 points in Detroit’s 86-76 win at Wright State on Wednesday. She was 8-of-10 from the field and also passed out five assists.

Terri Bender, UIC (Fr., G) - Bender scored 19 of her career-high 22 points in the second half as UIC defeated Valpo, 82-75, on Saturday. She was 6-of-14 from the free throw line and 10-of-16 from the foul line. She also had five rebounds, five steals and

Ivory James, Wright State (Jr., G) - James scored 22 points - on 8-of-11 shooting - in Wright State’s win at Loyola on Saturday. She connected on 5-of-8 three-pointers against the Ramblers.

Charae Richardson, Valparaiso (Jr., G) - Richardson scored a career-high 18 points on Saturday at UIC. She also dished out five assists against the Flames. She was 6-of-11 from the field, making a career-best four three-pointers.

Shar’Rae Davis, Youngstown State (Fr., G) - Davis scored 10 points and had five assists in YSU’s win over Milwaukee on Thursday.

Nafeshia Holifield, Cleveland State (Fr., F) - Holifield set career-highs in points (11) and rebounds (8) on Saturday in CSU’s loss to Milwaukee.
