CHICAGO – UIC Athletics held its annual blood drive with LifeSource last Thursday (Sept. 22) and had a successful turnout with student-athletes, staff and members of the community coming out to support the initiative.

"A wonderful showing for our athletic blood drive," said senior associate athletic director Denny Wills. "It is another reason to be proud of our student-athletes and the athletic staff for their support and understanding that everyone can help someone. I want to also give a special thanks to our blood drive committee of Eric Phillips, Mike Gilmartin, Ryan Ptak, Kyle Decker and Lexi Brown for getting the word out and making this event possible."

The goal for the event was to have more than 100 donors. A total of 107 units were collected through whole blood and double unit donations. With every unit helping to save three lives, the donors helped to save about 321 lives in the community.
