CHICAGO – The UIC men’s basketball team will take part in its first ever foreign tour this summer with a seven-day trip to Canada spanning from Aug. 12-19.  The Flames will begin their travels in Ottawa and finish in Toronto, while playing five games against Canadian university teams.

“We are very excited to have this opportunity for our program,” said head coach Howard Moore.  “I have known several teams that come back from summer trips with a much stronger bond as teammates.  We are going to play some top-level competition so these five games will be a great indicator of what we have to work on before the season begins.  I am also excited for our players to experience a different culture and embrace the educational components surrounding this trip. ”

UIC will leave Chicago on Aug. 12 and fly into Ottawa Airport.  After a walking tour of the city on Aug. 13, the Flames will take on the University of Ottawa inside Montpetit Hall at 8 p.m. ET.  On Aug. 14, UIC will battle Carleton University at Keith Harris Gym at 7 p.m.

On Aug. 15, the Flames will bus to Toronto for a four-night stay and three remaining games.  UIC will be challenged by the University of Toronto on Aug. 16 and then York University on Aug. 17.

During the late morning of Aug. 18, the Flames will take a boat tour of Niagara Falls, a world-renown waterfall system that reaches a height of 173 feet and has a flow of four million cubic feet of water every minute.

On the night of Aug. 18, UIC will take part in its final contest against Brock University at 7 p.m.  The Flames will return to Chicago on Aug. 19.

The tour is being arranged through Basketball Travelers, Inc., a company established in 1985 who has been partnering with hundreds of high school and college teams for tournaments and international tours on an annual basis.
