Oakland Falls in Homecoming Game to Incarnate Word in OT, 2-1 -- Box Score

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Gerald Ben scored the opening goal of the match and Gavin Hoy recorded four shots as Oakland fell to Incarnate Word, 2-1 in overtime, in men's soccer action during Homecoming Saturday evening at the Oakland Soccer Field. The Golden Grizzlies led 18-14 in shots including holding an 8-4 shots on goal advantage.

"First off we really appreciate the opportunity to have a Fall Homecoming," said head coach Eric Pogue. "With all of the great things going around campus it was great to be the showcase. We would have loved to come away with a victory tonight. I thought we fought hard but it did not go the way we wanted it to. I know our boys were proud to be a part of this great celebration." Flames Outlast DePaul in Double Overtime, 2-1 -- Box Score

CHICAGO – The UIC men’s soccer team (4-2-1) battled back from a 1-0 deficit to secure a 2-1 (2OT) victory against DePaul (3-3-1) on Saturday night at Flames Field. Junior Jorge Alvarez netted the game-winner and his second goal of the match in the 104th minute on a field-length kick from sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Putna.

"I think tonight showed the character that is in this group," head coach Sean Phillips said. "Losing two games on the road and coming home, we challenged them to respond, fight, compete and, more importantly, find that extra bit of composure in the final third. In addition to the two goals, we had a couple balls cleared off the line, which still is not quite the composure we want, but it is definitely going in the right direction." Read more
