UIC Falls at #7 Duke in Tuesday's Men's Basketball Action

Siena 79, Youngstown State 78 (4ot)


Youngstown State came to the Beeghly Center on Tuesday night looking to for a battle with Siena. Three hours later, the Penguins walked off the court suffering a 79-78 defeat in a 60-minute basketball game in which both teams left everything they had out on the floor. In a back-and-forth battle that was tied at 50 when the first overtime began, Siena's Tay Fisher ended the game after four extra sessions drilling a 3-pointer with 6.8 seconds remaining. Khari McQueen put the Penguins (2-5) ahead 78-76 on a basket with 18 seconds remaining. But Fisher came down and drained his third three of the fourth overtime to put the Saints (2-7) up by one. YSU's Jon Mends charged down court and got an open shot from 12 feet off, but his attempt was long and Jack McClinton grabbed the rebound to end the second-longest game in school history. Derrick Harris scored a game-high 22 points for the Penguins while playing 57 minutes.

Southern Illinois 54, Wright State 42


CARBONDALE, Ill.-Wright State lost at Southern Illinois University Tuesday night 54-42. The Raiders shot just 34 percent from the field overall and were outrebounded 33-30 as they used a 5-0 run to end the first half down just 21-17. DaShaun Wood, Zakee Boyd and Jaron Taylor each had eight points to lead WSU as SIU forced 19 turnovers. Boyd also grabbed a team-high seven boards.

#7 Duke 88, UIC 55


DURHAM, N.C.- UIC couldn't overcome a 16-0 run by #7 Duke to start the second half on Tuesday night as the Blue Devils posted an 88-55 victory over the visiting Flames at Cameron Indoor Stadium. With the loss, UIC drops to 3-4 on the year with two of those losses coming at the hands of teams ranked in the top 10 nationally. Duke, meanwhile, improved to 7-0 on the year and is now 161-3 at home versus non-conference since 1983. Sophomore Jovan Stefanov paced the Flames with 15 points and six rebounds, while senior Cedrick Banks chipped in with 12 points and five boards. UIC came out red hot from the field in the opening moments of first half, building a 22-14 lead in the first 10 minutes behind Stefanov, who had all of his 15 points in the opening stanza, and Banks. Duke battled back, though, closing the half on a 13-4 run to take a seven-point lead into intermission.
