Chicago, Ill. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday morning, that University of Illinois at Chicago infielder Mike Bruszer (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) has been named to the 2005 CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Baseball Team.
Bruszer, a senior second baseman, carries a 3.56 grade point average on a 4.00 scale as a Psychology major. He was also recently honored as the baseball program's student-athlete of the year at UIC's Academic Awards Banquet.
This season, Bruszer is currently batting .297 with a home run and 27 RBI, while leading the squad in both walks (27) and stolen bases (15). Bruszer was the 2001 MCC Newcomer of the Year and claimed All-Horizon League First Team honors in 2002.
To be nominated for the Academic All-District team, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 GPA and they must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing. Bruszer is one of 11 student-athletes voted to the District V team, which is comprised of universities from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario and Manitoba.
UIC will be back in action on Friday evening, as they will host Youngstown State for a four-game series, beginning at 7:05 PM at Les Miller Field.
