Men’s Soccer Results (Sept. 16)
UIC 1, Western Illinois 0
#arv Northwestern 2, Milwaukee 0

INDIANAPOLIS – UIC and Milwaukee split tournament results on Sunday, with UIC claiming the back half of the South Loop Classic, while Milwaukee fell in the final match of the Lakeside Classic.

UIC 1, Western Illinois 0
UIC tied for the UIC Soccer Classic presented by the Chicago South Loop Hotel title, defeating Western Illinois, 1-0, at Flames Field.

UIC (2-4-1) tied Wisconsin for the title with a 1-0-1 record over the two-match tournament, but dropped the tie-breaker on goal differential.

After a 2-2 tie on Friday, Phil Galounis scored the lone goal of the match on Sunday, tallying his first goal of the year in the 22nd minute. Galounis pulled up from 28 yards out, beating the keeper to the top left corner.

For the Flames, midfielder Ivan Stanisavljevic and defenders Zach Kaleta and Thomas Villamil were both named to the UIC Classic All-Tournament Team.

#arv Northwestern 2, Milwaukee 0
Northwestern University scored a pair of goals in a five-minute span following a scoreless first half to hand Milwaukee a 2-0 loss at Lakeside Field.

Milwaukee (4-3-0) placed second (1-1) at the Lakeside Classic, with NU claiming the title at 2-0.

The Panthers, who played without three starters due to injuries, ended up with just a slim 9-to-8 deficit in shots, but could not get things going on the offensive side.

Goalkeeper John Shakon made three saves in the game, with none looking larger than one he made just a minute into the second half. An NU shot from the top of the box was deflected and redirected on its way to the goal, yet Shakon somehow got a hand on it to push it wide and keep it scoreless at the time.

Northwestern took advantage of a scramble in front of the UWM net to break up the scoreless battle, with Henry Herrill picking up a loose rebound and firing it into the net at the 57:44 mark.

Nick Gendron doubled the advantage in the 63rd, heading home a long serve from the sideline back to the near post to add the insurance tally.

The first half was a defensive battle each way, with both teams combining for just six total shots throughout the first 45 minutes.

Rodriguez, Aaron Horvat and James Ashcroft earned All-Tournament Team accolades.
