UIC Soccer Standout Bubonja Checks In With The HoriZONE

Hello! This is Jovan Bubonja from the UIC men's soccer team.

I'm glad to get the season started. We had an exciting match against Santa Clara on Monday (UIC won, 4-3). The best part of the match was the support from our fans. Our student section, the Fury, was already in mid-season form with their cheering and chants, and we had a lot of alumni there. It was nice to see all the people from the community there; that was exciting as well. It was a fun environment to play in, and we hope to see everyone out at Flames Field throughout the season.

Our first two road matches take place this weekend. We go to UAB on Friday, Sept. 5 and Alabama A&M on Sunday, Sept. 7. Both teams will pose tough challenges, but we'll be ready to take them on.

I am really honored by the preseason awards I received last month. To be named a preseason All-American and get a spot on the Hermann Trophy Watch List is incredible, and I thank my teammates because such recognition wouldn't be possible without them. But while I am honored to be mentioned with the country's top players, my goals are team goals, and those goals revolve around playing deep into December.
