Men’s Soccer Results (Sept. 29)
Wright State 2, Green Bay 1
Milwaukee 1, Loyola 1 (2OT)
UIC 1, Valparaiso 0
Wisconsin 2, Cleveland State 1

INDIANAPOLIS – After opening weekend draws, teams gained a bit of separation on Saturday, as Wright State and UIC claimed wins in League play.

Wright State 2, Green Bay 1
Derek Zuniga and Brett Elder each recorded a goal and an assist as the Wright State men's soccer team posted a 2-1 Horizon League win at Green Bay Saturday night.

Wright State (3-6-1, 1-0-1 Horizon) was outshot, 12-8, by Green Bay (2-7-1, 0-2-0 Horizon) in the match, but made the most of its shots.

Zuniga opened the scoring late in the first half as he converted a pass from Elder on the right side for a goal in the lower left with just 58 seconds remaining in the period.  It was the third goal of the season for Zuniga and the second assist for Elder.

Elder then made it 2-0 at the 75:17 mark of the second half as he received a pass from Zuniga at the top of the box and beat the defender for his fourth goal of the year.  Zuniga tallied his fourth assist.

Green Bay cut the deficit in half with a goal at the 83:22 mark on a goal from Alonso Flores, but Phoenix could come no closer.

UIC 1, Valparaiso 0
Isai Lemus scored his first-career goal to lead UIC to a 1-0 win over Valparaiso at Flames Field.

UIC (4-4-2, 1-0-1 Horizon) remained unbeaten in League play, while Valparaiso fell to 1-6-2, 0-1-1 in the Horizon League.

Lemus’ goal came on a cross from Ivan Stanisavlejevic in the 67th minute, as the senior crossed the ball into the box, where Lemus finished a touch play to the near post. Lemus became the fifth UIC player this season to score a goal, while Stanisavljevic picked up his 11th point of the season with the credited assist.

UIC is now unbeaten in its last five contests, dating back to Sept. 14 versus IUPUI. With redshirt freshman goalkeeper Goran Ikic making his second-straight start, the Flames also recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time since October 2010.

Valpo held a 12-9 edge in shots, but UIC attempted eight corner kicks, while the Crusaders took just two. Ikic made four saves for the second-straight game. There were a combined 36 fouls called in the match, and a pair of yellow cards were handed out, one for each team.

Milwaukee 1, Loyola 1 (2OT)
Milwaukee led early before a Loyola goal in the 62 minute sent the teams to a 1-1 draw at the Loyola Soccer Fields.

Loyola (1-6-2, 0-0-2 Horizon) trailed until Kyle Spoo scored the equalizer, with Dane Bergstrom

It was Milwaukee (4-4-1, 0-0-1 Horizon) which scored first, with Dorian O'Lochlayne making a rebound shot off a 30-yard free kick to put Milwaukee in the lead.

Bergstrom set up the equalizer, centering a pass to Spoo, who took a shot 15 yards out to put Loyola back in the game, 1-1.

Two minutes later, Andrew Raymonds had a breakaway, dribbling past Milwaukee defenders to draw John Shakon out of the net. Raymonds chipped a quick shot over the goalkeeper's shoulders, but sent the ball high of the crossbar.

With the game tied at the end of regulation, overtime commenced and the teams continued to look for the game-winning opportunity. It was an all-around defensive battle, as Loyola and Milwaukee could notch only one shot apiece, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.

Wisconsin 2, Cleveland State 1
Cleveland State was unable to overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit and eventually fell on the road to the Wisconsin Badgers.

Cleveland State (4-5-1, 0-0-1 Horizon) played a scoreless game for the first 28 minutes of play before Wisconsin got on the board on a Jerry Maddi goal off an assist from Blake Succa.

The Badgers were not done in the first half as they scored again just before the halftime break in the 42nd minute of play. Conner Drew hit a far post finish off assists from Blake Succa and Chris Prince to make it a 2-0 game.

Down 2-0, the Vikings continued to fight until the final whistle. CSU battled the whole second half, including seven shots, with one finding the net late.

Aaron Adkins found the back of the net for his third goal of the year in the 86th minute off a deflected shot to give CSU a late chance.
