INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC sophomore shortstop Cody Bohanek (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) has been named the Horizon League Batter of the Week, while Wright State right-hander Jesse Scholtens [Fairfield, Calif./Rodriguez (Diablo Valle JC)] is the League’s Pitcher of the Week, for the week of March 16-22. The accolade is the first of Bohanek’s career and second of the season for Scholtens.

UIC (7-10-1, 4-2 Horizon) went 3-1 on the week, posting 10 or more runs in all three wins -- 10-6 at Illinois State and 11-10 and 14-4 in a League series against Oakland. The Flames sit two games back of Wright State (15-6, 6-0 Horizon), as the Raiders swept Milwaukee by a total of three runs in the three-game series. Wright State also took a 4-3 win over Northern Kentucky midway through the week.

Bohanek, an All-Horizon League Freshman Team selection last yener.

Bohanek’s final RBI in that game capped a walk-off win for the Flames, giving UIC head coach Mike Dee his 500th career victory. A 3-for-3 performance in Saturday’s series finale extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Taking into the Friday slot in Wright State’s rotation, Scholtens went the distance in a 1-0 win over visiting Milwaukee. In the pitchers’ duel, Scholtens scattered five hits while striking out six Panthers to collect his fourth win of the year.

Scholtens left the tying run 90 feet away in the third and sixth before Milwaukee put two runners on with two outs in the ninth inning. Scholtens completed the shutout by striking out the Panthers’ pinch-hitter.

On the year, the right-hander is a League-best 4-0 with an ERA of 0.89. Opponents are hitting just .208 against Scholtens.

UIC will host Notre Dame and Northern Illinois at Curtis Granderson Stadium on March 24 and 25, respectively, before heading to Youngstown State March 27-29 in a League series. Wright State will welcome Miami (Ohio) on the 24th and travel to Northern Kentucky the following day. The Raiders head to Valparaiso for its League series this weekend.
