INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Illinois at Chicago senior Blake Booher (men's swimming and diving) and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior Lindsay Caldwell (women's swimming and diving) have been named the Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week, commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Tuesday (Feb. 6).

Booher won two individual events against defending League champion Cleveland State University last Saturday (Feb. 3). He swam to first-place honors with a :20.38 timing in the 50-yard freestyle and posted a victorious :46.03 mark in the 100-yard freestyle. Booher also led off UIC's winning 200-yard freestyle relay unit with a split time of :20.25, the best by a League swimmer this year.

In the classroom, Booher carries a 3.29 grade-point average as a political science major. He earned Academic All-League recognition last year and is a mainstay on the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. Booher also serves on UIC's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Caldwell played a role in the Panthers' quest to upset reigning loop champion University of Wisconsin-Green Bay last Saturday, winning the 100-yard freestyle (:52.16) and 200-yard freestyle (1:54.34). The 100 victory was her ninth in a row in that event. Caldwell also was a part of UWM's 400-yard medley relay unit that broke a Dorschel Natatorium record with a 3:55.21 time.

In the classroom, Caldwell boasts a 3.586 grade-point average, majoring in journalism and mass communications. She garnered Second-Team Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America and was an Academic All-League pick in 2006. Caldwell, also a two-time Academic All-America selection by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, was the Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet at each of the last two League Championships.

The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards for this academic year as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
