UIC's Ehrhardt, Wright State's Shafer Named Cross Country Runners of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC junior Tess Ehrhardt (Geneva, Ill.) has been named Horizon League Women’s Runner of the Week, while Wright State senior Dan Shafer (Painesville, Ohio) has been named Horizon League Men’s Runners of the Week for the week of Oct. 1-6.

After winning her first Horizon League Runner of the Week honor last week, Ehrhardt has earned the honor again this week. The junior led the Flames for a third straight race, finishing in eighth-place at the Notre Dame Invitational. Ehrhardt completed the 5K race in 17:47.9. The field included 212 runners, with the Flames registering a 19th place team finish.

Shafer ran an 8K time of 25:43.22 at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate to finish in eighth-place. The senior from Painesville, Ohio, has led Wright State in all four races this fall. The Raiders finished in fifth-place among Division I teams, and 13th out of 41 teams competing in the Intercollegiate. Shafer’s time placed him in 16th among the 860 runners competing. This is Shafer’s first Horizon League Runner of the Week honor.  

The Flames compete next on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the UW-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational. The Raiders are back in action Oct. 18 at the Wilmington Fall Classic.

Top Runners for the Week:
Louisa Coppola, Detroit (Sr., Warren, Mich.) - Led Detroit for the fourth straight race at the Greater Louisville Classic. Finished the 5K course in 18:03, good for third-place.
Rachel Janson, Wright State (Sr., Dayton, Ohio) - Time of 24:16.61 placed Janson in 28th place at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship.
Sammy Mondry, Oakland (Fr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) - Cut 37 seconds off her time from last week, completing the Notre Dame Invitational in 18:21.9. Finished in 24th place.
Katie Webb, Cleveland State (Jr., Copley, Ohio) - Set a career-best 6K time of 24:55 at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship to finish in 35th place.
Andrew Bowman, Oakland (Fr., Marlette, Mich.) - Led Oakland to a ninth-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational. Plotted the course in 26:04.9, finishing in 20th place.
Kyle Hauser, UIC (Fr., Palos Heights, Ill.) - Led the Flames at the Notre Dame Invitational. Registered a 5K time of 27:00.60 to take 74th place.
Martin Nelkie, Detroit (Sr., West Branch, Mich.) - Finished 40th place in the 8K Gold race at the Greater Louisville Classic. Completed the 8K course in 25:42.60.
