UIC's Hahn Collects Horizon League Tennis Weekly Honor

INDIANAPOLIS –UIC sophomore Ann-Sophie Hahn (Ludwigsburg, Germany) is the Horizon League women’s tennis Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 7-13.

The UIC women’s tennis team competed at the ITA Second Chance Regional at the Boylan Tennis Center this past weekend, concluding the fall season for the Flames. UIC claimed first place in the doubles B flight and in two singles brackets, led by Hahn in both categories.

Hahn went undefeated in doubles and singles play at the Regional, capturing victories in the doubles B flight and singles C flight. In doubles play with teammate Veronica Lacerda, the duo came away with wins over Chicago State (8-1), Milwaukee (8-4) and Marquette (8-7) to claim the title.

Hahn continued her domination on the court in singles play defeating Chicago State’s Hanna Pangestu 7-5, 6-3 followed by a match against Northern Illinois’ Steph McDonald who was forced to withdraw due to injury. In the championship, Hahn collected her second flight title of the tournament with a victory over Marquette’s Laia Hernandez 6-4, 6-4.

The Flames kick off their 2014 dual season Jan. 25 against Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis.

Top Women’s Tennis Players of the Week:
Karine Celis, Oakland (So.)—Celis went 2-1 both in singles and doubles play at the Western Michigan Bronco Invitational. Celis won her singles match in straight sets and added an 8-6 win in doubles round robin play.
Kristin Kurer, Milwaukee (Sr.)—Won her singles flight and finished third in her doubles flight at the Second Chance Regional. She became UWM’s all-time singles wins leader over the weekend, now up to 73 career wins.
