INDIANAPOLIS – UIC sophomore Kyle Hauser and Valparaiso senior Jessica Richardson have been named the Horizon League’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month for October.

As a psychology major, Hauser carries a 3.77 GPA and is a two-time UIC Honor Roll recipient.

Hauser paced the squad in the month of October, placing 11th in the UW-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invite against 230 fellow competitors. For the meet, the sophomore ran the 8K race in a time of 25:31.7 and led the Flames to a fifth-place team finish out of 17 teams. At the Bradley Invite, Hauser ran well once again for UIC and placed 28th out of 247 runners with an 8K time of 25:23.9.

Richardson is an economics and mathematics major and holds a 3.848 GPA to earn Presidential academic honors throughout her tenure at Valparaiso. She has been placed on the Horizon League Honor Roll each semester eligible while being named an Academic All-Horizon League selection five times.

During the month of October, Richardson recorded personal bests in both the 5K and 6K events, good for second in Crusader history at the distances, respectively. The senior also tabbed Horizon League Runner of the Week honors twice. Her top performances in the month came at the Notre Dame Invitational in which she finished sixth out of 216 runners running a personal 5K best time by almost a minute. In addition, she excelled at the Bradley Pink Classic placing seventh in a field of 200 runners and beating her previous 6K personal top-time by 40 seconds.

This is the second time Hauser has garnered the award for the academic year and the first honor for Richardson.
