INDIANAPOLIS --- University of Illinois at Chicago freshman outfielder Ashley Hewett has been named the Horizon League Softball Player of the Week, while Cleveland State University junior righthander Amanda Macenko has earned Pitcher-of-the-Week accolades for the week ending March 22, the League office announced Tuesday (March 24).

Hewett batted 5-for-9 (.556) with two home runs, four runs-batted-in and two runs scored in UIC's three-game sweep of Butler University over the weekend. She was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the first game of Friday's doubleheader and posted in the same numbers in Saturday's series finale. Hewett's honor is the first of her career.
Pitcher of the Week
Amanda Macenko, Cleveland State

Macenko posted a 3-1 record with a 1.27 earned-run average in five games (three starts) last week. She allowed only four earned runs in 28.1 innings, striking out 28 with no walks. In the final two games of the weekend series against Wright State Unversity, Macenko recorded a pair of complete games victories, allowing 11 hits and no earned runs. The honor is Macenko's eighth of her career.

The League and its member institutions aspire to teach young people, through athletic competition, the value of learning, service to others and personal responsibility.
Horizon League teams have enjoyed national success in a variety of sports in recent years, most notably in men's basketball, in which its teams have advanced to the Regional semi-finals of the NCAA Championship three times in the past six seasons.
