UIC's Hinchley Taken in Ninth Round of MLB Draft

SEACAUCUS, N.J. -- UIC left-handed pitcher Ryan Hinchley was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday afternoon. Hinchley was taken by the White Sox with the seventh selection in the ninth round, 262nd overall.

"Ryan is a great kid whose development has been extraordinary," said Associcate Head Coach Sean McDermott said. "He has matured and will be a very solid professional for the White Sox. I'm confident that his best years of baseball are yet to come."

"Ryan was given an opportunity to pitch and develop at UIC, and he made the most of those chances. We love to see that development in our players. I'd also like to credit White Sox scout Garrett Guest for seeing that quality in Ryan as well. Ryan came to UIC as a quality kid. He grew, persevered, developed skills and is going to the White Sox organization as an even better person," added McDermott.

A native of Elmhurst, Ill., Hinchley capped his four-year career at UIC with a dominant senior campaign. Coming in as a closer for the Flames, Hinchley made 27 appearances and pitched 37.0 innings to post a 3-2 record and 10 saves, which places him in the UIC record book for third-most saves in a single season. Hinchley tabbed a 3.89 ERA  with 50 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .195 batting average.

Hinchley earned a spot on the All-Horizon League Second Team at the conclusion of the season after helping lead the Flames to the Horizon League Regular Season Title. In conference play alone, Hinchley picked up three wins, eight saves and aided in two shutouts while combining for a 2.70 ERA with 33 strikeouts.

This marks the second-consecutive year for a Flame to be selected in the MLB Draft after Tomas Michelson was chosen in the 29th round in 2014 by the Tampa Bay Rays.

The final 30 rounds of the 2015 MLB Draft will take place on Wednesday, June 10, beginning at 12 p.m. ET.
