UIC's Husidic named Men's Soccer Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - University of Illinois at Chicago junior midfielder Baggio Husidic has been named Horizon League Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the period of Sept. 22-28. It marks the second time this season Husidic has captured the award.

Husidic, a Velika Kladusa, Bosnia, native, led host UIC to a pair of Horizon League wins over the weekend. The junior opened the weekend with a pair of goals in a 5-0 win over Cleveland State Friday night. His first tally came in the 18th minute off a pass from sophomore Kevin Stoll. Husidic then buried a penalty kick in the 66th minute which put UIC ahead 3-0.

On Sunday, Husidic set up a pair of goals in a 2-0 victory over Detroit. He fed Stoll for the game-winning tally in the 24th minute and then set up junior Phillip Mitchell with an insurance goal in the 83rd minute.

For the week, the Bosnia native scored six points (2g, 2a) with four shots.

Husidic currently leads the league in points (18) and points per game (2.00), while ranking second in the conference in goals (7) and assists (4). He has scored at least one point in eight of UIC's nine matches this season.

Husidic was previously named Horizon League Player of the Week on Sept. 1, when he scored three points in the season opener versus UMKC. Flames goalkeeper Jovan Bubonja was the league honoree last week.

UIC (7-0-2, 2-0-0 HL), which was ranked No. 10 in the most recent NSCAA/adidas poll, travels to Marquette Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. The Flames then return to Horizon League action at Wright State Sunday afternoon.
