UIC's Duo of Kreps and Carter Headed Overseas to Continue Basketball Careers

CHICAGO -- Robo Kreps and Paul Carter, UIC’s top-two scorers from the 2010-11 campaign, both signed professional contracts to continue their basketball careers overseas.  Kreps signed with MIA Tbilisi of the Georgian League, while Carter will play for Proteas Danoi in the Cypriot League. The duo becomes the eighth and ninth Horizon League players from last year to head to Europe.

“I’d like to congratulate both Robo and Paul on extending their basketball careers on the professional level,” said head coach Howard Moore said in a release.  “Those guys did a great job serving as our co-captains last year, and had tremendous careers.  I’m extremely happy for both of them, and we’ll be paying close attention to their careers overseas.”

Kreps wrapped up a brilliant career in a UIC Flames uniform last season. The program's all-time leader in games played, Kreps scored 1,594 career points, ranking seventh on the Flames' all-time scoring list. The total ranks 43rd in the 31-year history of Horizon League basketball.

He also ranks in the top-10 all-time in field goals made (533; 7th), three-point field goals made (230; 4th), free throw percentage (.816; 5th), free throws made (298; 8th) and steals (146; 7th). He played a total of 3,944 minutes during his career, ranking third all-time, and his 91 starts are the eighth-most in school history.

During his senior season, Kreps moved from 16th to seventh on the all-time scoring list, finishing his career with 80 double-digit scoring efforts, including 25 outings with 20 or more points. Kreps is only the second player in program history to score 1,500 or more points, corral at least 400 rebounds and dish out 200 or more assists.

Carter was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team last season after averaging 14.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game on a 40.8 field goal percentage.  He posted a team-high 27 double-digit scoring efforts, including three contests with 20 or more points, and tallied 11 double-doubles, including eight in Horizon League play.  Carter played one season at UIC after transferring from Minnesota, and receiving a legislative relief waiver by the NCAA which allowed him immediate eligibility for his senior season.

MIA Tbilisi finished fourth in the Superleague standings last season, going 14-6. Proteas Danoi finished sixth in the Division “A” Final Stage Standings last season.

Cooper Land (Wright State; Asker), Vaughn Duggins (Wright State; Walter Tigers Tubingen), N'Gai Evans (Wright State; F.F. Feni Industries), Cory Johnson (Valparaiso; WCAA Giants), Rahmon Fletcher (Green Bay; WCAA Giants), Matt Howard (Butler; Olympiacos) and Shawn Vanzant (Butler; Korihait) have all signed professional contracts to play in Europe beginning this fall. Both Norris Cole (Miami) and Shelvin Mack (Washington) were tabbed in the NBA Draft.
