INDIANAPOLIS – UIC senior guard Robo Kreps (Maroa, Ill.) has been named Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week beginning Nov. 15.
Kreps averaged 23.3 points per game last week, helping UIC go 3-1 overall and 2-1 at the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic Subregional in Toledo, Ohio.
On Tuesday, Kreps led the Flames as they picked up their first win of the season, scoring 20 points and handing out five assists in a 94-54 win over Roosevelt.
At the subregional, Kreps helped UIC collect wins over Toledo and Rhode Island, scoring 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting against the Rockets and posting a season-high 27 points and eight rebounds in the 74-68 victory over the Rams. In the Flames’ loss 78-66 to the College of Charleston, Kreps finished the contest with 26 points and four assists.
Playing 117 of the 120 minutes available in the subregional, Kreps averaged 24.3 points per game on an impressive 60 percent (.595) clip from the field. He also dished out a total of 11 assists, ripped down 5.0 rebounds per contest and shot 90.5 percent (19-21) from the free throw line, earning MVP honors of the subregional.
UIC will host two Mid-American Conference opponents at the UIC Pavilion this week, beginning with a Wednesday night contest versus Central Michigan, tipping off at 8 p.m. ET. On Sunday, the Flames will welcome Toledo to UIC for a 4 p.m. ET tip as the teams meet for the second time in just over a week.
Player of the Week Nominees:
Shelvin Mack, Butler (Jr., G) - Averaging 22 points and seven rebounds in two games, Mack led the Bulldogs with 25 points at Louisville and with 17 versus Ball State, helping Butler go 1-1 on the week. Butler’s 33-point win over Ball State was the program’s largest margin of victory in 70 games.
Norris Cole, Cleveland State (Sr., G) - Cole led the Vikings to a 5-0 record for the first time in school history, averaging 19 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in wins over Urbana and Louisiana-Lafayette. Cole scored 10 of Cleveland State’s final 15 points against Louisiana, securing the win with an 8-for-8 effort from the free throw line.
Eli Holman, Detroit (Jr., C) - Holman posted his second double-double of the season at #10/11 Syracuse, finishing the contest with 17 points and 10 boards. The junior helped Detroit to its first win of the season on Friday, matching his career high with 21 points in a 93-62 victory over Indiana Tech.
Rahmon Fletcher, Green Bay (Sr., G) - Fletcher led Green Bay to its lone win of the week by scoring 18 of his 23 points in the second half of Sunday’s 69-64 win over Miami University. For the week, Fletcher averaged 16.3 points and 3.0 steals per game, moving into 14th on Green Bay’s career scoring list and fifth in career steals.
Jordan Hicks, Loyola (Jr., G/F) - Hicks helped Loyola improve to 5-0 for the first time since 1996-97 by tossing in 21 points and grabbing seven rebounds in Loyola’s 82-64 win at Western Michigan on Saturday. Hicks poured in 16 points in the Ramblers’ 73-62 victory over Eastern Illinois on Thursday.
Tone Boyle, Milwaukee (Sr., G) - Boyle led the Panthers to a 2-0 mark last week, finishing with a career-high 27 points as Milwaukee routed Niagara, 90-73, on Wednesday. In Milwaukee’s home opener, Boyle knocked down the game-winning jumper with 2.4 second left to lift the Panthers past Northern Iowa, 65-63.
Kevin Van Wijk, Valparaiso (So., F) - In his second and third career games, Van Wijk finished in double figures at #6/7 Kansas (10 pts.) and against Purdue-North Central (17 pts.). The 10 points led the Crusaders against the Jayhawks.
Matt Vest, Wright State (Fr., F) - Vest was nearly perfect from the floor on Sunday night, scoring a career-high 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting to lead the Raiders to a 66-43 win over Southern. On the week, Vest went 14-for-20 from the field, helping Wright State go 2-0 with wins over Northwood and Southern.
Vytas Sulskis, Youngstown State (Sr., F) - Sulskis led Youngstown State to a 1-1 record last week, scoring 20 points in a 91-84 overtime loss at Akron and 10 in the Penguins’ 64-53 victory over Buffalo. The 30-point total leaves Sulskis 38 points shy of becoming the 32nd player in Youngstown State history to eclipse 1,000 points for his career.
