INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC junior Alex Lee and Valparaiso sophomore Dalton Lundeen have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of March 31-April 6.
Lee picked up Batter of the Week honors after a fantastic four games at the plate. He started the week with his first career home run, a three-run shot, in UIC’s 18-5 win over Purdue. He finished the game 2-of-3 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBIs. The three RBIs in a single game were a career-high. The Prospect Heights, Ill., native stayed hot at the plate in UIC’s three-game sweep of Youngstown State as he tallied a career-high three runs scored in the Flames win on Friday and had a career-high four hits in UIC’s victory on Saturday.
For the week, Lee batted .769 (10-of-13) with a slugging percentage of 1.077 and an on-base percentage of .842. He scored eight runs, drove in seven more and walked six times.
Lundeen earned his second Pitcher of the Week nod of the season after seven shutout innings in Valpo’s series-clinching win over Wright State on Saturday. He struck out six Raiders and allowed six hits in the outing as he registered his second consecutive start without giving up a run. He lowered his League-best ERA to 2.57.
Other Horizon League top performers (Mar. 31-Apr. 6):
Justin Langley, Milwaukee (Fr., LHP) – Langley helped UWM to a sweep of Oakland with a solid start Sunday. He allowed two runs in 6.0 innings, walking one and striking out three. He posted a 3.86 ERA for the week in 9.1 innings.
Tomas Michelson, UIC (Jr., RHP) – Michelson tied a career-high with eight strikeouts in picking up the win over Youngstown State on Friday. He improved to 3-2 on the season and now ranks second in the League in innings pitched and fourth in strikeouts.
Kris Moules, Youngstown State (Sr., OF) – Moules had hits in all four of the games he played in during the week. His best outing was a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored on Sunday at UIC. He finished the week 6-of-13 (.462) at the plate with five runs scored and one driven in.
Josh North, Youngstown State (Jr., RHP) – North did not allow a hit and struck out five batters in a relief win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Michael Timm, Wright State (Jr., 2B) – Timm had a hit in all four Wright State games last week and had multiple hits in three of the four outings. He finished the week 9-of-15 (.600) at the plate with three doubles.
Ryan Solberg, Milwaukee (Sr., 1B/OF) – Solberg continues to hit well, batting .357 in a 4-0 week for UWM, scoring three times, driving in three and posting a .526 on-base percentage. He also stole five bases in five attempts.
