CLEVELAND – After the third day of competition at the 2011 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships, the Phoenix women and UIC men retain their place on top.

The men’s competition was highlighted in the last event when the UIC 800 Free Relay team of Luke Martinez, Joel Demuth, Daniel Corley and Andrew Schmitt set a Horizon League record to garner a one-half point lead over Milwaukee. Martinez and Schmitt also won individual events earlier in the evening. Brian Anderson also added to the Flames’ successful evening setting a league record in the 200 Freestyle (1:36.50).

Green Bay women still lead with 566.5 points, taking four out of the eight spots in the 400 Individual Medley. The Panthers follow with 488 points. Panther freshmen, Diana Diel and Emily McClellan each won individual events. Diel won the 100 Butterfly and McClellan won the 100 Breaststroke, setting a pool and league record in a time of 1:00.61.

Cleveland State’s Johanna Olsson’s 400 Individual Medley time set a league record of 4:19.76 and Carys Behn’s 200 Freestyle time also set a pool and all-time league record. The Vikings 800 Free Relay team also set a pool and all-league record (7:27.75). Kacey Cummings won the One-Meter diving, scoring a 263.75.

Action continues on Saturday morning at 10:00am (EST) with prelims and finals following at 5:30pm.
