INDIANAPOLIS -- After taking two games out of three from preseason-No. 1 Loyola, UIC freshman Laura Swan (Glendora, Calif.) and senior Devin Miller (Chicago, Ill.) have swept the weekly Horizon League Softball Players of the Week awards.
Swan is the Hitter of the Week, the third in a row for the Flames, while Miller claims Pitcher of the Week after sharing the honor last week.
In the series against the Ramblers, Swan batted .667 (4-for-6) and slugged 1.333 with a double, a home run, a sac fly and three walks, striking out just once. The freshman collected eight RBI and scored once. Her home run was Swan's third of the season, tying her for the team lead.
Miller started all three games, going 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA (6 ER in 14.0 IP). She struck out 15 Loyola batters in the series and allowed just two earned runs total in her first two starts.
The Flames will return to action today, facing in-city foe Northwestern.
