The UW-Green Bay women's basketball team (23-6) will face Iowa State University (17-12) at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 16 in the Women's National Invitaton Tournament first round at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.

The expanded 40-team field for the WNIT features eight preliminary round games. UW-Green Bay and Iowa State are among the 24 teams with a bye into the first round.

The WNIT bid marks the ninth straight postseason berth for the Phoenix and the team's 11th overall at the Division I level. UW-Green Bay will be making its third appearance in the WNIT, following a consolation title in the eight-team 1992 event and a first round loss in the 2001 tournament at Illinois.

The Phoenix and the Cyclones have one common opponent this season in Iowa. UW-Green Bay lost to the Hawkeyes 81-57 Nov. 30 in Iowa City, while Iowa State defeated its in-state rivals 77-61 Dec. 8 in Ames.
