GREEN BAY, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women's basketball team (26-3) overcame a dismal night in turnovers and rebounds with sound field goal shooting and tough defense as the Phoenix defeated Detroit 81-58 in the quarterfinals of the 2007 Horizon League Championship. With the win, the Phoenix will host the remainder of the tournament, with semifinal action on Friday and Sunday's title game.

Amanda Popp led the way with a career-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. Rachel Porath added a career-tying high 17 points, all in the first half. Natalie Berglin also reached double figures with 10 points.

Although the Phoenix had season highs in turnovers (23) and fouls (21), UW-Green Bay held Detroit to just 31 percent shooting.

The Phoenix got the game off on the right foot, as the team led 26-9 on a three-pointer by Porath with 11:30 to go in the first half. Porath made her first five shots of the game on her way to a 6-of-7 mark in the first half for her 17 points.

UW-Green Bay took a 37-14 lead with 6:26 to go in the first on a three-pointer by Popp, but Detroit rallied back to within 18 by forcing 13 Phoenix turnovers in the half and going 12-of-16 at the free throw line because of 13 UW-Green Bay fouls.

Detroit pulled to within 15 on a layup by India Brewster with 16:20 to go in the game, but the Phoenix kept the Titans at bay. A three-pointer by Erin Templin with 3:18 to go gave the Phoenix a 26-point lead to seal the game.

The Titans (5-26) were led by Joyce Massey's 13 points, while Brewster added 12 points and a game-best 18 rebounds.

The Phoenix will face UW-Milwaukee, the No. 4 seed that rallied from an early first half deficit to defeat Wright State in overtime 83-79. UW-Green Bay will take on the Panthers at 7:30 p.m., while No. 2 seed UIC will face No. 3 seed Butler at 5 p.m.
