Milwaukee, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and head women's basketball coach Sandy Botham have announced some staff changes recently due to the recent departure of an assistant coach. Former director of operations Jen Greger has been named an assistant coach following the move of former assistant Lea Robinson to the head coaching position at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, a DIII school in North Adams, Mass. In addition, longtime student manager Andy Cherney has taken over the Director of Operations position for this season.

"The timing of all of this was a little tough but this was a great opportunity for Lea," Botham said. "Anytime you have one of your assistants get a head coaching job its rewarding and exciting. She definitely earned this opportunity."

Greger, who had previous assistant coaching experience at both UWM and Western Michigan (1997-98), served as the Director of Operations the last two seasons. A four-year letterwinner for both Botham and M.A. Kelling at Milwaukee, Greger sits fourth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,385 points. The Sheboygan-native was named the 1996-97 Midwestern Collegiate Conference Player of the Year after leading the league in scoring with 19.7 points per game.

"Moving Jen over to the assistant coaching spot was just a natural for me," added Botham. "The players respect her because she was so successful and she really understands the game. I think it is a perfect fit."

Cherney, a Green Bay-native, has been an invaluable part of the Milwaukee family after serving as the head women's basketball manager from 2002-2004. Cherney will assume the Director of Operations position from Greger who held the post the last two years. Cherney has been instrumental in helping run the UW-Milwaukee Women's Basketball Golf Outing the last two summers and will now take care of the administrative and day-to-day office duties for the program.

"Andy is such a hard-worker and he already knew so much about the program that I thought it only made sense to move him into this spot," Botham said. "He knows the in's and out's of the program already and there is a built-in respect. I'm glad he is a part of the staff."

Greger and Cherney join first-year assistant Jennifer Murphy and third-year assistant coach Joe Conroy in completing Botham's 2004-05 staff. UWM will open the 2004-05 season with an exhibition game versus UW-Parkside on Thur., Nov. 11 at 7:00 p.m. The regular season opener is set for Sat., Nov. 20 at Marquette.
