GREEN BAY, Wis. --- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee defeated Cleveland State 8-0  on Thursday afternoon to advance to the semifinal round of the Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship at Aldo Santaga Stadium.

The Panthers received multi-goal performances from both Jodi Klagos and Second Team All-Horizon League selection Amanda Winn.  Klagos tallied both her fourth and fifth goals of the season, while Winn's two markers were her third and fourth of 2005.

UWM started the scoring at the 10:04 mark on Klagos's first goal of the match off an assist from Katie Campion.  A little over two minutes later (12:17), her second marker from eight yards out put the Panthers up 2-0.  Winn tallied both her third and fourth goals of the season in the final minutes of the second half to push the Panther lead to four.

The offensive explosion continued in the second half for the Panthers, as they netted four more goals to bring the final score to 8-0.   Molly Duffy and Joanna Severson each netted her first goal of season; Duffy headed in her tally at the 63:35 mark and Severson scored on a volley off the fingers of CSU goalkeeper Melisa Mazenac.  Pam Shipway (3) and Andrea Kramer (2) also scored for the Panthers.

UW-Milwaukee totaled 29 shots on the match, 13 on goal, compared to none for the Vikings.  The Panthers' eight goals are the second-highest single match scoring record in the history of the Horizon League tournament.  Three other teams had netted seven goals, most recently Butler in a shutout of Youngstown State in the 2002 quarterfinals.  Former member Notre Dame holds the tournament's single match scoring record with 10 goals in a shutout of Xavier in the 1994 quarterfinals.

With the loss, Cleveland State ended the season at 0-18-1.  UW-Milwaukee (11-4-3) moves on to face the winner of match two between #4 Wright State and #5 Butler on Friday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. CT.

The 2005 Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship will be held Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 3-6, at Aldo Santaga Stadium on the campus of UW-Green Bay.  The winner of Sunday's championship match will earn the League's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship which will begin Nov. 11 at campus sites.
