UW-Milwaukee 75, UIC 67


CHICAGO-In an early-season battle of the top two teams in the Horizon League preseason poll, preseason favorite UW-Milwaukee upended host UIC 75-67 in the League opener for both teams. UIC led 63-61 with six minutes remaining but the Panthers (5-0, 1-0) ended the game on a 14-4 run, including seven straight free throws down the stretch, to continue their undefeated start. Adrian Tigert led UWM with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Chris Hill added 18, Joah Tucker 17 and Boo Davis 10. Cedric Banks, the Preseason League Player of the Year, topped the Flames (2-3, 0-1) with a game-best 16 points and four assists. Armond Williams, who made his return to the UIC lineup after missing the first four games while completing coursework for his degree, finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. The win was UW-Milwaukee's first at the UIC Pavilion since the 1998-99 season.

Wright State 59, Northeastern 53


BOSTON-The play of Zakee Boyd down the stretch and a big night from Drew Burleson carried Wright State to a 59-53 win over Northeastern Saturday night in Boston. After being tied at the half at 32, the Raiders led for much of the second half until the Huskies went up 51-48 with six minutes to play on a Shawn Jones layup. Burleson, however, cut the deficit to one with a free throw and Boyd gave WSU the lead for good at 54-51 as he made one of two from the line and then connected on a three with 4:17 left. Northeastern (2-3) made it a one-point game again with two foul shots at the 2:19 mark, but another Boyd three made it a two-possession game.

UW-Green Bay 82, Weber State 62


GREEN BAY-Resch Center records for shooting percentage by an individual and team were set in an 82-62 UW-Green Bay win over Weber State Saturday night. The win boosts the Phoenix to 4-1 for the team's best start in seven years. Sophomore forward Josh Lawrence was a building record 10-11 from the field and 4-5 from three-point range for a career-high 24 points in the win. As a team, Green Bay was 31-37 in the game for 66.0 percent shooting, including red-hot 70.8 percent shooting in the second half. In his second game back from an injury, Javier Mendiburu scored 11 points and dished out 14 assists, tying the second-highest single game assist total in team history.

Bowling Green 59, Detroit 53


DETROIT-Detroit lost its fourth straight game Saturday, this time falling to Bowling Green by a 59-53 count. That equals Detroit's (1-4) slowest start since the Titans opened the 1988-89 campaign 1-12 (they were also 1-4 in 1993-94 and 1994-95). Bowling Green held a 31-29 lead at intermission and stretched its advantage to13 points in the final stanza before Detroit closed to within four in the waning seconds. Senior guard James Thues led Detroit with 14 points. Junior center Ryvon Covile shared the load for the Titans, scoring 13 points while corralling a game-high nine rebounds, blocking three shots and matching his career-high of three steals.

Southeastern Louisiana 77, Youngstown State 55


SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-Youngstown State suffered a 77-55 setback to Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday night in the consolation game of the SMS Price Cutter Classic at the Hammond Student Center. Senior Brian Radakovich scored a team-high 16 points and Quin Humphrey added 15 for the Penguins who are now 2-3 on the season. The Lions (5-2) used 24 points by Ricky Woods, including 16 in the second half to earn the victory. For the second consecutive night, YSU struggled at the game's outset. After Radakovich scored the first basket of the game, the Penguins scored just nine points the next 13 minutes.

Northern Iowa 80, Loyola 73


CHICAGO-A furious second-half rally by Loyola (2-4) proved to be not enough as a hot-shooting Northern Iowa (3-1) squad pulled out an 80-73 victory Saturday afternoon at the Gentile Center, and sent the Ramblers to their first loss at home this season. Loyola's four losses this year have been by a total of 17 points. DaJuan Gouard matched a career high with 27 points as he topped the 20-point plateau for the third time in his career. Majak Kou chipped in 13 points and Tom Levin added a season-best 10 points for the Ramblers.
