UW-Milwaukee Increases League Lead in Men's Basketball

UW-Milwaukee 85, Cleveland State 65


MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Joah Tucker scored 22 points as UW-Milwaukee won its sixth consecutive game, an 85-65 rout of Cleveland State Thursday night.


Milwaukee (13-4, 7-1 in the Horizon League) led the entire game, including 7-0 before the Vikings got off a shot.


Cleveland State (4-10, 1-5) lost for the 10th time in 11 games, is 0-9 on the road and was whistled for a technical in the first half for playing with six men on the court.


The Panthers held the Vikings' Omari Westley without a field goal attempt for the first 7 1/2 minutes, and the star forward finished with nine points, seven below his average. Raheem Moss led Cleveland State with 12 points.


Ed McCants added 17 points for Milwaukee, which improved to 8-1 at home.


The game was decided in the first half. McCants hit a 3-pointer to give the Panthers a 25-11 lead with 10:03 left.


Milwaukee extended the lead to 35-18 on Tucker's jumper with 4:20 left and led 45-27 at halftime.


Milwaukee made 17-of-28 shots (60.7 percent) in the first half and scored 14 points off Cleveland State turnovers. The Vikings only made 9-of-27 shots (33.3 percent) in the first half.


Cleveland State could get no closer than 14 points in the second half.


With the victory, the Panthers opened their lead in the Horizon League. UIC, UW-Green Bay and Detroit are tied for second at 4-2.

Loyola 80, UW-Green Bay 61


GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Blake Schilb hit his first 12 shots, including five 3-pointers, and scored 32 points to lead Loyola to an 80-61 upset of UW-Green Bay Thursday night.


Schilb had reached the 30-point mark by the midway point of the second half and missed his final two shots to go 12-for-14 from the field for the game.


Loyola snapped an 18-game losing streak in regular season road games dating back to last year. Green Bay's perfect home record was ruined after eight wins. The Ramblers now are 1-8 on the road and the Phoenix are 8-1 at home.


Green Bay (11-5), which was coming off a loss at UW-Milwaukee, slipped to a 4-2 Horizon League record.


Loyola (5-13, 3-5) took a 27-14 lead on a 16-2 run that included back-to-back 3-pointers by Schilb and DaJuan Gouard, followed by a steal and slam dunk by Majak Kou.


Green Bay closed the first half with an 11-0 run to draw within 40-36 at halftime, as Brandon Morris scored the final nine points of the half, including a running 30-footer at the buzzer.


But Loyola stretched its lead again, as Schilb scored 16 of the Ramblers' first 19 points in the second half.


Tom Levin's tip-in pushed Loyola's advantage to 65-46 with 7:22 left, and Green Bay never got closer than 10 points the rest of the way.


Gouard added 18 points for Loyola while Kou had 13.


Benito Flores led Green Bay with 15 points.

UIC 63, Detroit 57


CHICAGO (AP) -- Cedrick Banks scored 28 points as UIC beat Detroit 63-57 Thursday night.


Banks shot more than a third of the Flames' (9-7, 4-2 Horizon) shots, hitting 10-of-20 from the field and pulling down five rebounds. Teammate Rocky Collum had 13 points, while Justin Bowen had eight rebounds in only 13 minutes.


Brandon Cotton had 21 points for the Titans (7-9, 4-2 Horizon), while teammate Chuck Bailey had 12 points and nine rebounds.


The Titans kept it close until the second half, when Collum hit a 3-pointer to put the Flames up by five. The victory increases the Flames' winning streak to five games.
