Horizon League member University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee ranks 64th through the winter sports standings of the 2005-06 United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup presented by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

Formerly known as the Sears Directors' Cup, the annual contest awards points for NCAA post-season appearances and performances in all sports.

The Panthers have earned 175 total points and are just 9 1/2 points behind Villanova University, while standing 4 1/2 points ahead of Wake Forest University and 5 1/2 in front of George Mason University. After picking up 50 points apiece for men's and women's soccer in the fall, Milwaukee garnered 50 points in men's basketball and 25 in women's basketball during the winter as both teams advanced to their respective NCAA Tournaments. The Panther men defeated the University of Oklahoma 82-74 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual national champion University of Florida 82-60. The UWM women's team lost to Michigan State University 65-46 in the first round of the NCAAs.

UW-Milwaukee, which has won the McCafferty Trophy as the Horizon League's all-sports champion the past two years, ranks eighth-highest among non-Division I-A programs and second among institutions that do not sponsor football at any level, behind only Santa Clara University (53rd, 206 points), which earned all of its points in the fall.

Eleven-time defending champion Stanford University took over the lead through the winter season with 737 total points after netting 455 in the winter alone. The University of Texas ranks second with 647.5 points, followed by the University of Wisconsin (616 points), Pennsylvania State University (586.25) and Ohio State University (575.25). Fall leader University of Notre Dame is sixth with 570 points.

The next ranking will be released in the summer following the conclusion of spring sports championships. For the complete winter standings, log on to www.nacda.com.
