Sept. 20, 2006
Milwaukee, Wis. - Junior Amanda Winn of the UW-Milwaukee women's soccer team and Wright State sophomore Amy Miller were named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week, the internet publication announced Wednesday (Sept. 20).
Winn led the Panthers to a 2-0-1 record last week, helping the team to wins over No. 16 Missouri (1-0) and Marquette (2-0) and a tie with Kentucky (0-0). She dominated the midfield, helping to allow just six shots per game, while adding seven shots of her own. Against Marquette, she assisted on one goal and set up the other with a long free kick into the box.
Milwaukee's win over Missouri was its first over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 8 Nebraska on the road to start the 1998 season. The Tigers were ranked 16th in the NSCAA National Poll and as high as 10th by Soccer America.
Miller earns the award after tallying three times in the Raiders' 2-0-0 week. She found the net twice, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 victory over Eastern Illinois on Friday. Miller responded with more of the same on Sunday with her third goal of the week and fifth on the season in WSU's shutout of Bowling Green. Wright State (6-0-2) stretches its unbeaten streak to eight games, the best start in school history.
