Milwaukee, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee junior defender Janice McGann was named to the All-Great Lakes Region Third Team by the National Soccer Coaches' Asscociation (NSCAA), the organization announced today. In addition, the UWM women's soccer team received the NSCAA Academic Award.

"I thought Janice put together a solid season," head coach Michael Moynihan said. "She is one of our team leaders. As a captain she did great, bringing exceptional experience and leadership to the team."

In garnering her first career regional honor, McGann established herself as a mainstay on the Milwaukee back line in each of her three seasons. The only UWM player to start all 22 games this season, McGann contributed an assist on offense this season while anchoring a defense that boasted a 0.99 GAA and league-high eight shutouts. For her efforts, the Canada-native was also one of three Panthers to earn All-League First-Team honors.

McGann was one of two league players honored in the Great Lakes Region, joined by Horizon League Player of the Year Mary Parker from Detroit on the third team.

In earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award, UWM is recognized for posting a team cumulative grade point average of over 3.00. The team has earned the award each year under Moynihan.

The Panthers finished their season in the championship game of the Horizon League Tournament, falling 1-0 to Detroit, to end the season at 11-8-3. Milwaukee was the top seed in the tourney after winning its fifth-straight regular season league crown with its fourth unbeaten league mark in that time.
