UW-Milwaukee's Stan Anderson Earns National Recognition

Milwaukee, Wis. - Stan Anderson has long played a major role in the success of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team. Now, the ninth-year man has been honored for his work as he was named one of the top 15 assistant coaches in the country by collegesoccernews.com this past week.

Anderson just finished his second season as an Associate Head Coach after serving as an assistant coach for the previous seven years. A 1990 graduate at UW-Parkside, Anderson serves as Milwaukee's goalkeeper coach as well as serving as its lead recruiter.

"It is nice to be recognized by College Soccer News. They do a great job covering a great game," Anderson said. "(Head coach) Louis Bennett does a great job providing an environment at UWM for the players and staff. It's easy to be recognized as a top assistant when you are coaching alongside two class-acts like Louis and (assistant) Jon Coleman."

During his time at UWM Anderson has coached professional goalkeepers Matt Schmidt and Brad Swenby, along with Chris Dadaian, Kirk Thode and Eric Mickschl. Dadaian finished third in the nation with a 0.54 GAA in 2002 while Thode posted a 0.76 GAA in 2003, good for 22nd in the nation. This past season Anderson worked with Mickschl, a sophomore, en route to his league-best five shutouts and 0.85 GAA. In addition to his work in Milwaukee, Anderson also owns and operates Camp Shutout, one of the most attended goalkeeping camps in the nation. The camp, which has been in existence since 1989, draws over 60 goalkeepers from four different states during its Advanced Sessions.

Anderson assisted the 2004 UWM squad which finished the season with a 14-5-3 record, a fourth-straight NCAA appearance, and second round NCAA Tournament showing.
