UWGB's Scharlow Earns Preseason Recognition From <I>Street and Smith</I>

Green Bay, Wis. - Abby Scharlow, a senior guard on the UW-Green Bay women's basketball team, received All-America honorable mention in Street & Smith's 2004-05 College Basketball Preview. As a team, UW-Green Bay was one of 10 Best of the Rest selections by the publication, falling just out of the magazine's Top 25 listing.

Scharlow had a breakout season for the Phoenix in 2003-04, leading the Phoenix with 16.5 points a game while adding 5.8 points and 4.2 assists a contest on her way to earning first team all-Horizon League honors. The 2004 Horizon League Tournament Most Valuable Player was a CoSIDA first team academic all-District V selection. For the year, Scharlow ranked 21st in the NCAA with a 40.1 three-point field goal percentage and 92nd in scoring.

The Phoenix posted a 23-8 record last season, including a 13-3 mark in the Horizon League for the team's sixth straight regular season title. UW-Green Bay also won its third consecutive Horizon League tournament title and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the sixth time in seven seasons.

UW-Green Bay returns all five starters from last year and will also have the services of senior Tiffany Mor, who obtained a medical redshirt from the NCAA after suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2003.

Minnesota, which will face UW-Green Bay at the Phoenix Sports Center Wednesday, Dec. 8, was ranked #17 by the publication.

The Phoenix will prepare for the 2004-05 season with a pair of exhibition contests in Green Bay (Wisconsin AAU, Nov. 6, Chicago Challengers Nov. 11) before opening the regular season against Auburn at the Vermont Banknorth Tournament Friday, Nov. 19.
