Men’s Basketball Scoreboard (Nov. 11)
Milwaukee 81, Davidson 77
Detroit 106, UM-Dearborn 51

Horizon League teams went unbeaten for the second consecutive night, with Milwaukee collecting a quality road win at Davidson and Detroit rolling in its home opener.

Milwaukee 81, Davidson 77
Milwaukee trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half, but took control late to spoil Davidson’s home opener, 81-77, at the Belk Center.

Playing its second consecutive road game, Milwaukee (1-1) appeared to fix some of the late-game issues that plagued the Panthers in a loss on Friday. Steve McWhorter’s jumper put the Panthers up, 72-71, with 3:10 remaining, and Milwaukee did not trail the rest of the way.

For the second straight game, it was the play of sophomore Matt Tiby that carried Milwaukee. After a 20-point, 9-rebound debut on Friday, Tiby backed up the effort with 21 points and nine boards on Monday.

The sophomore’s last two points came at the free-throw line with 42 seconds left, giving the Panthers their largest lead of the game, 77-71.

Milwaukee would close out the game at the charity stripe, finishing the evening 32-of-40 at the line. The Panthers outscored Davidson, 32-11, from the line.

Davidson entered the night having won 20 straight home openers and took a 55-44 lead with 14:29 to play. The Milwaukee comeback would start with an Austin Arians layup off a pass from McWhorter, and McWhorter followed with a layup to cut the gap to 55-48.

An Arians 3-point play made it a 55-51 game, and after Davidson restored an eight-point lead, 61-53, Tiby took control. Displaying a versatile game, Tiby’s layup brought the Panthers within two possessions before the sophomore sliced the gap in half with corner three with 8:02 left.

Two Tiby free throws closed the deficit to a single point with 7:44 remaining, setting the stage for two Kyle Kelm freebies with 5:52 to play which put Milwaukee in front, 66-65.

Detroit 106, UM-Dearborn 51
Opening its 61st season at Calihan Hall, Detroit cruised past visiting UM-Dearborn, shooting 52.2 percent en route to a 106-51 thumping.

Detroit (1-1) got it done on both ends of the court, going 34-of-65 from the floor while recording 13 blocks and 14 steals, forcing 21 UM-Dearborn turnovers on the night.

Juwan Howard, Jr., was among the Titans’ offensive stars, posting his second consecutive double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds in just 21 minutes of court time.

All 10 Titans who appeared in the game scored, six finishing in double figures. Anton Wilson joined Howard with 20 or more points, record a career-high 21 on the strength of 8-of-9 shooting.

Evan Bruinsma, Patrick Onwenu and Jerod Williams formed a trio of players with 12 points, while Matthew Grant added 10.

Detroit never trailed in the game.

Oakland will be the lone Horizon League team in action on Tuesday, as the Golden Grizzlies travel to No. 24/24 UCLA. Tip from Pauley Pavilion is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on the Pac-12 Network.
