The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) has announced that University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior Karen Fruit has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for October 25 through October 31.
A 5-10 outside hitter from Viola, Wis., Fruit led the Panthers to three victories last week, keeping them tied for first place in the Horizon League and extending their winning streak to seven.
Tuesday against DePaul, Fruit finished with 14 kills (.357 hitting) and 16 digs in the three game sweep, also recording the 1,000 dig of her career. But it was only a glimpse of what was to come, as she'd have three double-doubles on the week.
Friday at Loyola, Fruit finished with 25 kills and added 22 digs, then wrapped up the week with 19 kills and 15 digs against UIC Saturday.
The Loyola match was the fifth time in her career she surpassed the 20-mark in both kills and digs.
With her dig mark, she becomes on the second player in UWM's Division I history to reach at least 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs and 100 aces in a career.
For her efforts, Fruit was also honored with Horizon League Player of the Week accolades for the fourth time this season and the fifth time in her career.
