Sept. 3, 2008
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Sept. 3, 2008) - Freshman Sarah Hagen of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team has been named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week for Sept. 1, the online publication announced today.
Hagen is the first Panther to earn the national honor this season, while two players were national team of the week selections in 2007.
Hagen scored three goals and assisted on another in two games at the Milwaukee Cup last week, leading UWM to its second straight title. Against Ohio State Wednesday (Aug. 27), she tallied a goal and assisted on another in an exciting 4-3 win. Two days later, she scored the first two goals of the game for Milwaukee in a 4-2 victory over Samford.
Despite playing just three games in a Panther uniform, Hagen has already tallied five goals, 11 points, been named league player of the week, a tournament MVP and has now earned selection to a national team of the week.
The Panthers (3-0), ranked 24th in this week's Soccer America national poll, are in action tonight, taking on No. 25 Marquette (3-0) at Valley Fields. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
