INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee senior outfielder Sam Koenig (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) has been named the Horizon League Batter of the Week, while UIC left-hander Jake Dahlberg [Vancouver, Wash./Heritage (Mt. Hood CC)] is the League’s Pitcher of the Week, for the week of March 9-15. The accolades is the third of Koenig’s career and first for Dahlberg.

Milwaukee (10-4, 2-1 Horizon) rallied to take its series versus defending League champion Youngstown State, splitting the first two games before capturing a 9-6 win in 11 innings on Sunday. UIC (4-9-1, 2-1 Horizon) took the first two games of its series against Valparaiso, 8-2 and 3-2, before falling in the finale.

Koenig extended his hitting streak to 14 games over the weekend, going 6-for-11 at the plate and posting a .667 on-base percentage. In Sunday’s finale, Koenig crushed a 3-run homer in the 11th inning, lifting the Panthers to the series victory.

On the year, Koenig is pacing the Horizon League with a .451 batting average and .563 on-base percentage.

Taking the bump on Saturday, Dahlberg twirled a gem against Valparaiso, tossing 8.2 innings without allowing an earned run. The southpaw struck out a career-high nine while scattering three hits and walking none.

Across 30.0 innings this season, Dahlberg’s 3.30 ERA ranks third in the Horizon League, while his 23 punchouts are fourth.

Milwaukee will head to Horizon League leader Wright State for a three-game set, beginning on March 20. UIC will play a midweek game at Illinois State on Wednesday, March 18, before welcoming Oakland for a conference series March 20-22.

Horizon League top performers (March 9-15)

  • Tyler Detmer, UIC (Sr., OF) - Detmer extended his reached base streak to 36 games, going 6-for-16 across the week.
  • Robby Enslen, Oakland (Sr., OF) - The preseason league player of the year went 4-for-8 in Oakland’s doubleheader loss at Wright State, driving in both Golden Grizzly runs in the nightcap.
  • Nate Palace, Valparaiso (So., 1B) - In Valpo’s series at UIC, Palace posted a 1.000 slugging percentage, recording an extra-base hit in all three games. On Sunday, Palace reached base in all seven of his plate appearances, including a 3-run homer.
  • Mitch Roman, Wright State (So., SS) - Roman turned in multi-hit games in four of Wright State’s five wins this week, finishing 9-of-22 at the plate. The sophomore had two RBIs in the Raiders’ 6-3 victory over Xavier and two more in the 6-1 win against Oakland.
  • Mario Losi, Valparaiso (So., RHP) - Inducing four double plays across seven innings of work, Losi picked up the win in Valpo’s series finale at UIC.
  • Luke Mamer, Wright State (Sr., RHP) - Closed the perfect week for Wright State, tossing six scoreless innings and scattering four hits as the Raiders swept Oakland, 11-4.
  • Cody Peterson, Milwaukee (Sr., RHP) - Picked up a save and win in consecutive days, recording a four-out save to close Milwaukee’s 6-5 win on Saturday before tossing 2.2 scoreless innings to collect the win in UWM’s 11-inning victory.
