MILWAUKEE - Former University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball player Lindsay Laur has signed a professional contract to play with the Carolina Giants of the National Superior Basketball League in Puerto Rico.

Laur finished her career as the No. 4 scorer (1,404 points) and No. 3 rebounder (791 rebounds) in Milwaukee's Division I history. She was an All-Horizon League First Team honoree last season and is one of 10 players in school history with 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.

"I am really excited for the opportunity to continue to play," Laur said. "It's always been a dream of mine to play at the next level. The whole summer I have been preparing and not sure where I was going to end up, but I have been trying to stay in game shape and competing to keep that edge. To finally be able to sign a contract feels really, really good."

As a senior, she started all 30 games and became the first player in team's Division I history to lead the team in scoring, rebounding and assists in the same season. Laur finished third in the league in scoring (17.3 ppg) and second in rebounding (9.4 rpg), scoring in double-figures in 28 of 30 games while posting 13 double-doubles on the season, tied for most in the league. She also set a school record and was second in the nation with a 92.8 percent free throw percentage.

"We are so happy for Lindsay," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "She has worked very hard for this opportunity and we know she'll make an impact, professionally, just like she did here at Milwaukee."

The Carolina Giants are the defending champions in the BSNF heading into the 2011 campaign. The BSNF season begins August 19, 2011 in Carolina, Puerto Rico.
