INDIANAPOLIS – Valparaiso senior right fielder KC Boldt (Red Wing, Minn.) has been tabbed the Horizon League Player of the Week, while Wright State freshman pitcher Krystian DeWitt (Garden Grove, Calf.) has been selected the League Pitcher of the Week, for the week beginning May 2.  The accolade is the first of the season for Boldt, while DeWitt is collecting her second honor of the year.

Valparaiso (32-19-1, 15-7 Horizon) wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Horizon League Softball Championship, sweeping an abbreviated two-game set against Cleveland State.  Wright State (26-27, 13-11 Horizon) takes the No. 6 seed in the tournament after recording a home series victory against UIC.

Boldt made eight plate appearances across three games last week, failing to reach base in just one of those appearances.  On Tuesday, she scored one of two Valpo runs in a 10-2 setback at No. 25/21 Notre Dame, before going 2-for-3 at the plate in the Crusaders’ 4-2 victory over Cleveland State on Sunday.  In the second game of the day, Boldt drove in all three Crusader runs, drilling two home runs to tie the Valparaiso single-season record with 10 on the year.

For the week, Boldt finished 5-for-6 at the plate, tallying four runs, two homers and three RBI.  The senior slugged at a 2.000 clip for the Crusaders, who obtained the second seed for the second time since joining the Horizon League.

DeWitt bookended the Horizon League softball awards season, claiming the final Pitcher of the Week honor after capturing the first of the year as well.  The freshman tossed 14 innings on the week, all coming in Wright State’s series with UIC.  On Saturday, the right-hander went seven innings, taking the tough-luck loss after allowing an unearned run in a 1-0 defeat.

Coming back on Sunday, DeWitt led the Raiders to the series victory, giving up just three hits over seven innings of work as Wright State won, 5-1.  DeWitt wrapped up the regular season leading the Raiders with a 2.94 ERA and 149 strikeouts in 39 appearances.

Valparaiso, as the No. 2 seed, received a bye into the second day of the Horizon League Softball Championship, which runs from Wednesday, May 11 until Saturday, May 14, at the Loyola Softball Park.  Wright State takes on No. 3 Butler in the second game of the tournament, with the first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.  The Crusaders will meet the winner of that contest.
