Valpo Collects Point in 4-1 Defeat at #14 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Valparaiso men's tennis program collected the first point by a Horizon League program in NCAA Tournament play in 22 years in a 4-1 loss at No. 14 Northwestern in the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament.

The Crusaders close a record-setting year with a 22-6 record, setting a program mark for wins in a season. Valparaiso is the first conference program since Notre Dame fell to Georgia, 4-3, in 1994 to earn a tournament point.

Charlie Emhardt earned the Crusaders' point at No. 4 singles, recording a 6-2, 7-5 victory to cut Valpo's deficit to 2-1 at the time.

Jeffrey Schorsch pushed his match at No. 1 singles into a third set before the match was concluded, while Garrett Gardner fell in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 3-6, to conclude the match.

In doubles play, Schorsch and Emhardt held a 5-3 lead at No. 1 before play was halted due to Northwestern victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.
