MELBOURNE, Australia – Valparaiso’s Ryan Broekhoff (Frankston, Victoria, Australia/Australian Institute of Sport) will continue to showcase his skills for the Australian Boomers, as he has been one of 14 players invited to the Melbourne training camp for the Farewell Series against Greece, a three-game set next week. Broekhoff is still in contention for a spot on the 12-player team which will represent Australia in the 2012 Olympic Games.
Broekhoff was chosen as one of 14 players for the Farewell Series Melbourne training camp after representing Australia in the YouYi Games, a three-game series against China earlier this month. The senior-to-be saw 23 minutes of action over the three games in that series, scoring four points and grabbing a pair of rebounds.
The 14 players called into the training camp for the Farewell Series are loaded with the nation’s top players, highlighted by the inclusion of Patty Mills, who currently plays for the San Antonio Spurs. Broekhoff is one of just two NCAA players in the camp, joined by St. Mary’s Matthew Dellavedova. The team also consists of four NBL players and seven international professionals.
The three-game series kicks off at 7 p.m. local time (5 a.m. Eastern time) on Sunday, June 24 from Hisense Arena in Melbourne. Game two will be Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the State Basketball Centre in Knox, while game three tips off at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27 at the Geelong Arena.
