INDIANAPOLIS -- Valparaiso forward Tabitha Gerardot has been named the Horizon League women’s basketball Player of the Week, while UIC guard Terri Bender has been named the Newcomer of the Week.

Gerardot recorded her third double-double of the season in leading Valparaiso to a 67-59 comeback win over Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native had 26 points and tied her career-high with 17 rebounds as the Crusaders overcame a 15-point deficit in the first half to win. Gerardot scored 15 points in the second half, including nine consecutive points in an 11-0 Valpo run that gave the Crusaders the lead for good. She finished the game 9-of-13 from the field.

Bender, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., scored all of her career-high 20 points in the second half as UIC overcame a one-point halftime deficit to win at Loyola. Bender was 7-of-8 from the field in the second half, knocking down all three of her three-point field goal attempts, to lead the Flames as they outscored the Ramblers by 12 points after halftime. Her seven made field goals and three three-point field goals made were both career-highs, as was her four steals.

Top Performers for the Week:
Shalonda Winton, Cleveland State (Sr., F) - Winton had a pair of double-doubles last week as the Vikings started conference play with two wins. She started the week with 25 points and 15 rebounds in CSU’s 73-69 overtime win at UIC. On Saturday, she had a career-high 32 points and 10 rebounds in the Vikings’ 77-66 win over Detroit.

Adrian Ritchie, Green Bay (Sr., G) - Ritchie scored 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting in GB’s win over Detroit on Tuesday. She also had four assists and a career-high seven steals against Detroit. On Saturday, Ritchie scored 10 points and had four assists in just 19 minutes of action in the Phoenix win over Wright State.

Taylor Foulks, UIC (Sr., G) - Foulks had a career-high 13 rebounds and also contributed six steals in UIC’s overtime loss to Cleveland State on Wednesday. In Saturday’s win at Loyola, Foulks had 14 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. She moved into eighth place all-time at UIC in steals with 188.

Brandi Brown, Youngstown State (Sr., F) - Brown posted her 10th double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds in the Penguins loss at Valparaiso on Saturday.

Sami Tucker, Milwaukee (Sr., F) - Tucker record her first double-double of the season - 10th of her career - with 17 points and 13 rebounds in Milwaukee’s loss to Wright State on Thursday.

Top Newcomers for the Week:
Charae Richardson, Valparaiso (Jr., G) - Richardson scored 13 points, grabbed four rebounds and had two assists in Valpo’s win 67-59 win over Youngstown State.

Taylor Johnson, Loyola (Fr., G) - Johnson finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals in Loyola’s loss to UIC on Saturday. Her nine rebounds were a career-high as she narrowly missed out on her second double-double of the season.

Shar’Rae Davis, Youngstown State (Fr., G) - Davis scored 13 points and passed out a game-high six assists in Youngstown State’s loss at Valparaiso. She also tied her career-high with three three-pointers.

Nafeshia Holifield, Cleveland State (Fr., F) - Holifield played 21 minutes (after only playing 27 minutes total for the season coming into the game) in the Vikings’ 77-66 win over Detroit. She had a career-high six points and six rebounds in the win. She also posted two steals, one block and one assist in the game.
