Viking women sweep weekly swimming and diving honors

INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State freshman Alice Sommerville has been named the Horizon League Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while teammate Kacey Cummings has claimed Women’s Diver of the Week honors for the period of Jan. 11-Jan. 17.

Sommerville picked up her second career Swimmer of the Week award after the newcomer posted two event wins this past weekend.  The New Zealand native guided her squad to a pair of dual-meet triumphs over Xavier and Duquesne this past weekend as the Vikings recorded their first 11-win season since 1972-73.  Her first-place 50-yard freestyle time clocked in at 23.84 while her winning 100 freestyle time registered in at 52.28.

Cummings brought home a pair of first-place honors from this past weekend as CSU posted two dual-meet wins.  The sophomore totaled a winning score of 261.45 from the one-meter board and her first-place tally from the three-meter height equaled 285.10. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native, collects her second career weekly award.
