Horizon League volleyball schedule & results
Horizon League volleyball tournament release
Six schools are currently preparing for the 2009 Horizon League Volleyball Championship. The 24th-annual event will take place at Woodling Gymnasium on Cleveland State University's campus. Quarterfinals will be played on Friday (Nov. 20), semifinals on Saturday (Nov. 21) and the tournament finale on Sunday (Nov. 22).
Cleveland State (25-7 overall, 13-3 Horizon League) will be the top seed in this year's tournament followed by No. 2 seed Valparaiso University (22-9, 12-4). The Vikings and the Crusaders have earned a bye to the semifinals.
No. 3 seed University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (13-14, 10-6) looks to defend its 2008 title. The Panthers will shoot for their third tournament crown in the past four years.
Butler University (21-13, 10-6) has earned the No. 4 seed, while the University of Illinois at Chicago (15-17, 8-8) and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (10-19, 5-11) represent the fifth and sixth seeds, respectively.
Milwaukee will battle Green Bay in the first quarterfinal on Friday at 5 p.m. ET. Butler will then square off with UIC in the second quarterfinal at 7:30 p.m.
Cleveland State will face the lowest remaining seed in the first semifinal on Saturday at 1 p.m., while Valparaiso will then battle the highest remaining seed in the second semifinal at 3:30 p.m.
The semifinal winners will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the conference title. All five matches will be shown live on the Horizon League Network (www.horizonleaguenetwork.tv)
