Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week

 

Jenna Maddocks

Cleveland State, OH, Sr., Norwalk, Ohio

Maddocks led the Vikings to their second straight weekend sweep with solid peformances in wins over Wright State and Butler.  She tallied season-highs with 18 kills and 22 digs in Friday's win over the Raiders and notched 14 kills on a .478 hitting clip against the Bulldogs.  Maddocks averaged 4.00 kills and 3.25 digs per game as the Vikings moved into a tie for first-place in the League standings.

 

Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week

 

Sarah Rauen

UW-Green Bay, Libero, Junior, Stacy, Minn.

Rauen posted 7.20 digs per game in three matches last week for the Phoenix.  She opened the week with a 25-dig performance in a win over DePaul, then broke the UW-Green Bay school record with 26 digs in a three-game match in a sweep of UIC on Saturday.  Rauen closed out the weekend with a match-high 21 digs in a sweep of Loyola.

Leanne Felsing

UW-Milwaukee, OH, So., Elm Grove, Wis.

Felsing recorded double-doubles in both of UWM's matches this weekend, leading the Panthers to  a first-place tie. She tallied 12 kills and 10 digs on Friday against Loyola, then led the team with 17 kills plus 13 digs, four blocks and four assists in a win over UIC.  On the weekend, Felsing averaged 3.62 kills and 2.88 digs per game.

 

Sarah Poling

Wright State, OH, Jr., St. Henry, Ohio

Poling averaged 3.40 kills and 4.05 digs per game in three matches for the Raiders this week. She tallied six kills and six digs in a loss to Cincinnati, followed by a double-double of 20 kills and 19 digs at Cleveland State.  Poling led all players with 22 digs and added eight kills in a win over Youngstown State.

 

Candice Washington

Butler, MB, Sr., Columbia, Md.

Washington combined to hit .421 in Butler's two matches over the weekend, inlcuding a .476 clip against Youngstown State Friday night.  She tallied 12 kills against the Penguins and added eight on just 17 swings at Cleveland State. She also added nine blocks in only six games on the weekend.

 

Jackie Rosen

UW-Green Bay, OH, Sr., West Allis, Wis.

Rosen led the Phoenix to a 3-0 week by averaging 5.60 kills per game at a .282 hitting rate and adding 3.20 digs per game. Rosen pounded out 20 kills in a win at DePaul, 17 against UIC and 20 in the weekend finale against Loyola.  She leads the Horizon League in kills with 4.81 per game and is on pace to break the UW-Green Bay single season record.

 

Angie Pasquinelli

Youngstown State, S, Sr., Toledo, Ohio

Pasquinelli paced the Penguins with two double-doubles last week with 38 assists and 11 digs against Butler and 36 assists plus 10 digs against Wright State. For the week, she avaergaed 12.33 assists and 3.50 digs per game.

 

Katarina Nedeljkovic

UIC, OH, So., Serbia & Montenegro

Nedeljkovic had 27 kills in two League matches over the weekend, including 15 in a loss to UW-Green Bay and 12 in a loss to UW-Milwaukee. She also added 10 total digs on the weekend.

 

Ann Deelo

Loyola, L, Jr., St. Louis, Mo.

Deelo averaged 6.29 digs per game in two matches last weekend, including a season-high 24 on Friday against UW-Milwaukke.  She also added 20 in a loss at UW-Green Bay.  Deelo now has three 20-dig matches this season and leads the Ramblers with 3.43 digs per game.

 

Maura McCarthy

UIC, OH, Jr., Orland Park, Ill.

McCarthy notched a career-high 22 digs versus UW-Green Bay on Saturday, while also adding eight kills and one service ace. She tallied 16 digs on Saturday in a loss to UW-Milwaukee.

 

Cari Leslie

Youngstown State, OH, Jr., Grafton, Ohio

Leslie averaged 4.67 digs per game over the weekend for the Penguins, including a team-best 19 against Wright State.  She also notched nine digs in a loss to Butler.

 

Megan Knightly

Butler, L, Sr., Chicago, Ill.

Knightly had 29 digs in just six games over the weekend, pushing her career total past 1,600. She also went all weekend without a reception error, including handling 38 serves at Cleveland State on Saturday. Knightly continues to lead the Horizon League with 5.32 digs per game.

 

Emily Clark

Cleveland State, OH, Sr., Bolivar, Ohio

Clark averaged 3.62 digs and 0.50 blocks per game in the Vikings' weekend sweep. She notched 22 digs, three blocks and an ace in a five-game win over Wright State on Friday and seven digs and a block in a sweep of Butler.  She also received 94 serves without allowing an ace.

 

Taylor Gerlach

Wright State, L, Jr., Wheaton, Ill.

Gerlach totaled 56 digs in three matches for the Raiders last week, including a season-high 32 digs in a five-game loss to Cleveland State. She avergaed 4.60 digs and 0.30 assists on the week.

 

Becky Peters

UW-Milwaukee, L, Fr., Germantown, Wis.

Peters posted two double-figure dig efforts as the Panthers won both League matches over the weekend. She tallied 19 digs in a win over Loyola Friday night and a team-best 20 in a win over UIC on Saturday.

 

Vikings earn first five-game win since 2003; break attendance record.

With a 3-2 win over Wright State on Friday, Cleveland State snapped a run of eight- straight five-game losses in regular season conference play, dating back to 2002.  A school-record 913 fans were on hand for the victory.  The Vikings also extended their current winning streak to six matches as they defeated Butler on Saturday for their seventh victory in League play.

 

Flames slip out of first place; look to regroup with non-League match-up.

UIC is looking up in the League standings  for the first time this season, as losses to UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay dropped the Flames into third-place behind co-leaders UW-Milwaukee and Cleveland State.  UIC will look to regroup with a non-League match-up against Bradley on Tuesday night, before facing Loyola in the Flames' only match of the weekend.

 

DeGeeter continues to impress; Senior Day set for Saturday, Oct. 29

Sophomore Michelle DeGeeter posted her second consecutive double-double and second of her career with 13 kills and 14 digs on Friday versus Youngstown State. She also matched a career-high with a .440 attack percentage in that match.  Butler will honor seniors Megan Knightly and Candice Washington prior to the 4 p.m. home finale against UW-Green Bay on Saturday, Oct. 29.  Knightly leads the Horizon League with 5.32 digs per game, while Washington leads the Bulldogs with a .252 hitting percentage and 1.21 blocks on the season.

 

Panthers extend winning streak; avenge early losses to League foes

UW-Milwaukee extended its winning streak to eight matches with two weekend wins over Loyola and UIC. The Panthers have had a winning streak of at least seven matches in each of the last nine seasons.  The wins over Loyola and UIC also avenged the only two UWM losses in League play this season, both coming on the first weekend of League play.

 

Raiders return home to face both League Wisconsin schools

Wright State will play just its fifth and sixth home matches of the season this weekend as the Raiders host UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee.  The Phoenix visits WSU on Friday night at 7 p.m., while the match versus the Panthers is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Raiders will be looking to avenge earlier losses to both teams.  Green Bay defeated the Raiders 3-2 on Sept. 30, while UWM handed WSU a 3-1 loss on Oct. 1.

 

Rosen on pace to break school record; Panthers look to extend winning streak

With two 20 kill performances last week, UW-Green Bay senior Jackie Rosen increased her kills per game averaged to 4.81, putting her on pace to break the single season Phoenix record. UW-Green Bay looks to extend its three-game win streak as it travels to Wright State and Butler this weekend.

 

Pasquinelli moves into second place on all-time assists chart

Senior setter Angie Pasquinelli tallied 74 assists last weekend to move into second place on the all-time assists list at Youngstown State with 3,730 for her career.  She needs 270 more to join Melisaa Lyczkowski (4,820) as the only players in school history to record 4,000 assists in a career.

 

Ramblers host Valparaiso before heading back into League play.

LU will host Valparaiso on Tuesday night before heading into a League match with cross-town rival UIC.  The Ramblers are 2-8 in non-League play this season.
