BUTLER BULLDOGS (15-6, 5-4)
At 15-6, Butler is off to its best 21-match start since 1997. That season, the Bulldogs began the year 18-3.Butler ranks second in the Horizon League with 2.49 blocks per set. The Bulldogs have notched double-figure blocking totals in 12 of 21 matches this season.Butler is the only school with three individuals in the Horizon League's top 10 for points per set. Sophomore Jessica Wolfe is third (3.79), while junior Porshia Allen places fourth (3.63) and sophomore Kelsey Labrum ranks eighth (3.33).
CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (4-15, 3-7)Senior Jordan Bateman, who had 30 digs in two matches last week, is now just 36 shy of the school record. CSU's current record holder is Emily Clark, who collected 1,406 digs from 2002-05.Junior Kayla Lefeld had her streak of three straight double-doubles snapped on Friday night at UIC when she tallied 19 kills and nine digs.Cleveland State will play its final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday evening at Bowling Green.
GREEN BAY PHOENIX (8-11, 4-5)Senior Megan Elfering places sixth in the nation with 5.60 digs per set.Green Bay will look for its first road victory of the season this weekend. The Phoenix have a Friday evening match at Butler and Saturday night affair at Valparaiso.
LOYOLA RAMBLERS (15-7, 5-5)Junior Alyse Serritella eclipsed 1,000 digs for her career by recording 39 last week. She stopped 21 attacks against Youngstown State on Friday night and 18 vs. Cleveland State on Saturday evening.Five of Loyola's final seven matches are at home. The Ramblers have won 75 percent of their matches at Alumni Gym all-time.
MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (15-6, 8-1)Senior Becky Peters tallied nine digs on Saturday evening to become the Horizon League's all-time leader. She now has 1,757 digs, passing the 1,742 Ann Deelo of Loyola collected from 2003-06. Peters became UWM's all-time digs leader earlier this season.Junior Lauren Felsing places 11th in the country with 5.36 digs per set.Milwaukee is now 97-9 in October over the last 11-plus season and has won 16 of its last 18 Horizon League road contests.
UIC FLAMES (10-12, 4-6)Sophomore Casie Sullivan recorded back-to-back double-doubles last week. She tallied 12 kills and 12 digs against Cleveland State on Friday, and 12 kills and 10 digs vs. Youngstown State on Saturday.Junior Lana Lobdell totaled 16 blocks in 10 sets last week. Her 1.60 average was good for second in the league.UIC leads the Horizon League with 1.40 service aces per set. The Flames have reached double figures in that department twice this season.
VALPARAISO CRUSADERS (13-6, 5-4)Valparaiso leads the nation with 15.12 kills per set and ranks second with 14.03 assists per set.Junior Angie Porche places fifth in the country with 4.72 kills per set. Senior Brittany Malicoat is 12th with 5.32 digs per set.Junior Angie Porche collected a match-best 21 kills on Friday night against Butler. Porche now has 1,418 career kills and is only three shy of the No. 2 spot on Valparaiso's all-time list.
WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS (10-13, 6-4)Wright State's four-set win at Green Bay on Friday night was its first over the Phoenix in Wisconsin since Sept. 29, 2001.Wright State is 10-13 overall (No. 7 in winning percentage), but 6-4 in league play (No. 2 in winning percentage).
YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (10-11, 3-7)Youngstown State tied the school record for blocks in a five-set match on Friday night at Loyola. The Penguins collected 20 team blocks, which tied the previous mark for five sets against Kent State on Nov. 12, 1995. Sophomore Haley Kapferer led the way with seven stops against the Ramblers.Youngstown State leads the Horizon League with 2.58 blocks per set. The Penguins have reached double-figure team blocks on 10 occasions this season.
