INDIANAPOLIS -- Cleveland State University senior John Westra (baseball) and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay senior Natalie Berglin (women's basketball) have been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Tuesday (March 27).

Westra batted .706 in four games last week, collecting 12 hits in 17 at-bats. His hit total included a home run, two doubles and seven runs batted in, along with four runs scored. He went 10-for-12 in three games versus Wright State University over the weekend, including a three-for-three effort with two runs batted in to lead the Vikings to a 7-2 victory in Saturday's (March 24) series opener. He had four hits and scored twice in the nightcap of that doubleheader and posted three more hits with two RBI on Sunday (March 25).

In the classroom, Westra owns a 3.76 grade-point average, majoring in history and education. His GPA is the second-highest on the team, and he is a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. Westra is also a recipient of the CSU Academic Athletic Excellence award.

Berglin closed her collegiate career in grand style Tuesday (March 20), scoring a career-high 28 points in UW-Green Bay's loss to the University of Connecticut in the second round of the NCAA Championship. She made 11 of 16 shots from the field, including a personal-best six three-pointers, while also adding team-high totals of six rebounds and three assists. The loss ended the nation's longest winning streak at 26 consecutive games as the Phoenix posted a League-best 29-4 record.

In the classroom, Berglin boasts a 3.25 grade-point average as a business administration major. She is a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and has been a member of three UW-Green Bay teams cited by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association for that group's Top 25 Academic Team awards.

The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards for this academic year as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
