GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Without even tipping off its 2010-11 season, the Green Bay women’s basketball team is ranked second in the CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

“Preseason rankings have more to do with last year than this year,” said head coach Matt Bollant. “Until we start beating other teams, we just need to keep taking care of business at practice.”

Green Bay received 11 first-place votes behind Gonzaga who was ranked first in the poll with 12. This is the first women’s poll released by CollegeInsider.com who created a men’s poll over a decade ago.

“It’s nice for mid-majors to be recognized and it says a lot about our program here at Green Bay,” said Bollant.

The Phoenix returns its entire starting line-up from last season, including Horizon League preseason Player of the Year Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.). Last season Green Bay won its 12th consecutive regular-season league championship, the nation’s longest active streak, before advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Green Bay will tip off its 2010-11 season Saturday, Oct. 30 as it hosts Winona State at 4 p.m. in an exhibition game at the Kress Events Center.

The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
